Frijole Flats

The little town of Frijole Flats is located somewhere in the great Southwestern United States. Francisco Pepito Tuxpan who came to America with his family in 1898 first settled the area. He planted his first bean, which he brought with him soon after his arrival. It wasn’t long before a whole crop of these special beans was growing on his property. As usually happens after one’s good fortune, others followed. Soon a town grew up around the bean fields. Frijole Flats was on the map, or so it seemed.

At harvest time there arose such a smell in the fields. All the workers knew it was time, but nobody wanted to go out there! Many workers stated that they could actually hear the beans. But, go out they did. The beans needed to be harvested, but quickly. For a time, the beans were canned, but this proved to be not such a good idea. Many cans simply exploded before they could be shipped out. The local rail line refused to carry the cargo after losing the roofs of several boxcars. It was decided that bagging dry beans was a better, and much safer, option. This seemed to work fine. However, when the product was re-hydrated in homes around the country, well, that’s another story. They were safe as long as they were not kept in airtight containers!

Our model of Frijole Flats is still growing. We will be adding more structures to the series this year and next. Late in ’06 we will have all of the original kits back in stock as well as the first in the bean packing plant series. Pepito’s Pintos will be a real eye catcher on any railroad. Don’t forget the free download of Rosita’s Tacos too. This little roadside stand is the best place in town to sample those pintos! Tell Rosita we sent you.

All of the kits in this series are limited to “runs” which means when they are out of stock, they may not be back for months. Check for availability first, please.
