Frijole Flats
For all of those modeling Colorado/New Mexico, the Chili line or Mexican narrow gauge rail lines we present this series of structures. To our knowledge no other series of adobe structures has been produced. Its about time!
Welcome to the Spanish architecture section of this little town. The illustration shows the block in its entirety. As you read this almost all of the pattern work has been completed. Over the next couple of months we will introduce these models one at a time. There are a few extra pieces available that you may wish to use to individualize your block. These parts are available now along with the first structure. Each structure is a complete stand alone four-sided building except for Espiranzas Crib, which must be sandwiched between two structures. There is a front yard with garden plus a fence and gate for this most interesting kit. It is all resin and features prototype construction of "found" materials.
My own version of this block depicts the town in later day life of the early 1950s. Some of the buildings have been fitted with air circulating equipment as well as other "modern" appliances and signs.
Tuxpan Mercantil
This little store was built by the founder of the town to help supply the workers with the tools they needed for daily life. The original roof was Spanish barrel tile as shown; however, there is a corrugated version available as an extra. Complete plans, instructions and decals are included in this first offering. Check out the details section for those extra parts that you may wish to use and add to your order.
More about the townMy model will also include Rositas and will have the Poco Querida (the towns first steam locomotive) on display out front. Plans for Rositas are downloadable free on this site! The other structures available will be El Gato Negro Bar, the Groceria and Esperanzas Crib. and the Facilities will be available out back as well as a few other details to help personalize your modeling efforts.

The Groceria
This tiny shop handles most of the fresh vegetables and basic supplies
for the town of Frijole Flats. It's not a big town! The shop has a flat
roof that has wooden board detail cast in. This can be covered with
building paper or even corrugated metal if you desire. The four walls,
sidewalk and rear stoop and the roof section are cast in Hydrocal. The
details are special resin castings. While the materials for the front
overhang are not included, drawings and instructions guide you through
the easy addition. As extras we offer the little cart and a set of
boxes, bins and bowls to display the store's wares.
Two more kits are in the wings for this series and will be available by
year's end. These will be followed by a Spanish-style Depot and maybe a
two story Hotel! Stay tuned.
Esperanza's Crib
This kit is a little different as it gets sandwiched between two other
buildings in the Frijole Flats series so there are no side walls
included. It depicts a tiny shack made from found materials and houses
Esperanza, an employee El Gato Negro. There is a welcoming little garden
out front in the courtyard and the gate is painted a cheerful bright
red. Plaster base and resin castings for the structure walls. All the
detail is there ready to be highlighted with paint. Basic rocks are cast
in place for the courtyard but no plants are included. Lace curtains are
provided!
El Gato Negro
A welcome addition to the
town of Frijole Flats by the workers of Pepito's Pintos! After a hard
day in the fields or bean plant a refreshing couple of cold ones are
welcome. Complete with sidewalk sections this corner structure is cast
in Hydrocal. Bar doors and decals are included as is the large swamp
cooler on the front wall. Complete painting instructions are provided
with both kits.
